A 62-year-old tourist from Brazil died under tragic circumstances in Kanpur Dehat on Monday afternoon after suddenly falling ill at a highway fuel station.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The deceased has been identified as Silvia Regina, a resident of Gaivotus Piwalius Boytu UCSD in Brazil. She was on a trip across India with two fellow tourists, Martin, 29, and Olga, 35, both citizens of Russia. The group was travelling from the popular hill stations of Kullu-Manali towards West Bengal.
For their journey, they had rented a car from Rakesh, who lives in the Baldev Lal area under the Raya police station in Mathura. The unfortunate event occurred around 2:00 PM when the driver stopped for a CNG refill at a petrol pump located near Kumbhi on the busy Kanpur-Itawa highway.
Immediate Response and Medical Efforts
Reports indicate that Silvia Regina went to use the toilet facilities at the pump. It was there that she fell unconscious. Her travel companions and the driver immediately rushed to her aid.
An ambulance was called, and she was swiftly taken to the local medical college for urgent treatment. However, upon arrival, Dr. Nishant Pathak examined her and declared her dead on arrival. The sudden nature of the collapse left her fellow travellers in shock.
Official Investigation Underway
Local authorities were promptly informed about the death of the foreign national. SDM Neelima Yadav and Akbarpur Station House Officer (SHO) Harmeet Singh reached the spot to gather preliminary information.
Officials recorded statements from the Russian tourists who were accompanying Silvia Regina. SHO Harmeet Singh confirmed that a formal investigation into the incident has been initiated. The necessary legal procedures are being followed, including arrangements for a post-mortem examination of the body to determine the precise cause of death.
The incident has cast a pall over the tourist group's journey and highlights the challenges of medical emergencies during travel. The police are conducting a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death.
