Bihar Government Announces Special Tourist Facilities for Cambodian Visitors

The Bihar state government is actively planning to offer special facilities to tourists from Cambodia as part of a comprehensive strategy to boost tourism within the state. This initiative follows a recent online meeting between officials from the Indian embassy in Cambodia, the Union tourism ministry, and the state tourism department.

New Cambodian Restaurant and Infrastructure Projects

As part of these efforts, a Cambodian restaurant is set to open in Bodh Gaya, a major pilgrimage site for Buddhists. Tourism secretary Nilesh Ramchandra Devre, who participated in the meeting, provided details on additional infrastructure developments.

"There is a plan for corridor construction in Bodh Gaya, besides replicas of all stupas are being constructed in Kesariya," Devre stated, highlighting the state's commitment to enhancing tourist amenities and cultural landmarks.

Strengthening Cross-Border Spiritual Tourism

The primary objective of the meeting was to explore effective ways to strengthen cross-border spiritual tourism and cultural exchange between India and Cambodia. This collaboration aims to leverage the historical and religious connections between the two nations, particularly through Buddhist heritage sites in Bihar.

Key focus areas include:

  • Developing specialized tourist corridors in Bodh Gaya to improve accessibility and visitor experience.
  • Creating replica stupas in Kesariya to showcase architectural and cultural heritage.
  • Facilitating cultural exchanges through events and educational programs.

This move is expected to attract more international tourists, particularly from Southeast Asia, and position Bihar as a premier destination for spiritual and cultural tourism. The state government's proactive approach reflects a broader trend of leveraging international partnerships to revitalize local tourism sectors.
