Bengaluru Airport Launches Gate-Z: A Next-Generation Lounge for Modern Travellers
In a significant upgrade to passenger amenities, Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport has officially unveiled Gate-Z, a cutting-edge lounge designed specifically with Generation Z in mind. This innovative space, located adjacent to the 080 International Lounge in Terminal 2, aims to redefine the airport experience through interactive zones and advanced artificial intelligence features.
A Space Built on Inclusivity and Technology
The new lounge, which opened on January 22, 2026, incorporates several distinct areas to cater to diverse passenger needs. Key highlights include Bubble and Brew, a contemporary café; The Sipping Lounge for relaxed beverages; Subway Diner offering quick meals; and the Amphizone, an amphitheatre-style seating area for entertainment or relaxation. What sets Gate-Z apart is its seamless integration of AI technology, which enhances navigation and personalisation, making the lounge experience more intuitive and convenient for travellers.
Designed to Resonate Across All Age Groups
While rooted in Gen Z values such as inclusivity, authenticity, and self-expression, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) emphasises that Gate-Z is intended to appeal to a broad demographic. From young professionals seeking dynamic environments for work and socialising to seasoned travellers who prioritise comfort and tranquillity, the lounge adapts to various travel rhythms. According to BIAL's press statement, this design philosophy ensures the space remains relevant and welcoming for all passengers.
Leadership Insights on the Launch
George Bennet Kuruvilla, Chief Executive Officer of Bangalore Airport Services Limited (BASL), commented on the launch, stating, "Gate Z reflects BLR Airport's intent to design spaces that respond to how travel is experienced today, as part of a broader lifestyle rather than a moment in transit. Inspired by values of inclusivity, authenticity and connection, the lounge brings together comfort, culture and community in a way that feels intuitive and welcoming across age groups." He added that involving young Indians in naming the lounge underscores a commitment to co-creation, ensuring the space aligns with the mindset it represents.
Bengaluru Airport's Growing Passenger Traffic
The introduction of Gate-Z comes amid a period of robust growth for Bengaluru airport. BIAL reported that passenger traffic reached 43.82 million in the recent period, marking an 8% increase from 40.73 million in 2024. Notably, the airport achieved its highest-ever single-day passenger count of 137,317 on November 23, 2025. Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) also peaked at 837 on October 19, 2025, with an average of 765 daily ATMs for the year.
Enhanced Domestic and International Connectivity
In October 2025, Bengaluru airport advanced from third to second place in the number of domestic flights operated among Indian airports, highlighting its expanding role in the aviation sector. International connectivity has similarly strengthened, with average daily international departures rising from 38 in 2024 to 51 in 2025. This represents a 28.7% year-on-year growth in international passenger traffic, underscoring the airport's increasing global footprint.
The launch of Gate-Z not only enhances passenger amenities but also aligns with Bengaluru airport's broader strategy to cater to evolving travel trends and boost overall customer satisfaction.
