In a powerful display of maternal resilience, a young woman in Gorakhpur has vowed to raise her newborn son alone, declaring she will never let the shadow of his father fall upon the child's life. Her journey to motherhood was marked by immense hardship and abandonment, culminating in a dramatic delivery facilitated by the Government Railway Police (GRP).
From Despair to Determination: A Mother's Journey
The woman, who worked as a domestic help in Delhi, faced severe trauma during her pregnancy. She alleged that her husband abandoned her while she was expecting and eloped with another woman. Left to fend for herself, she endured tremendous pain and uncertainty. Her ordeal peaked when she suffered labour pains for nearly four hours during a train journey. In this critical moment, GRP personnel came to her aid and ensured she was rushed to the district women's hospital in Gorakhpur, where she safely delivered a baby boy.
Initial Refusal and Compassionate Counselling
Overwhelmed by her circumstances, the new mother initially refused to accept her newborn child and declined to breastfeed him. The emotional and physical toll of her abandonment and the painful delivery left her in a state of shock. However, the dedicated hospital staff intervened with sustained counselling and emotional support. Their persistent efforts and compassion led to a turning point. The woman relented, agreeing to nurse and accept her son, marking the beginning of a new bond.
Hospital Support and a Promise for the Future
District hospital superintendent in charge (SIC), Jai Kumar, confirmed that the hospital is providing complete care for both mother and child. "Once the health of the baby improves, both mother and child will be discharged. Till then, the hospital staff is taking complete care of them and all possible help is being provided," Kumar stated. From the depths of despair, the woman has found a fierce resolve. She has made a firm decision to build a life for her child independently, shutting the door on the father who left her in her most vulnerable state. Her story is a poignant testament to the strength of single mothers and the critical role of institutional support in times of crisis.
