In an incident that has captured national attention, a newlywed bride in Uttar Pradesh made the drastic decision to end her marriage a mere 20 minutes after arriving at her marital home. The event, which unfolded in the Deoria district, has sparked widespread discussion on social media about marital expectations and family dynamics.
The Swift Unraveling of a Union
The couple had entered into matrimony with grand celebrations at a marriage hall in Deoria on November 25. All traditional rituals, including the Jaimala and Dwar Puja, were completed without incident. However, the situation took a dramatic turn the following day, November 26, during the 'Dulha Chehra Dikhai' ceremony at the groom's residence.
According to reports, shortly after her arrival, the bride, identified as Pooja, abruptly halted an ongoing ritual. She immediately demanded that her parents be called, expressing deep dissatisfaction with the behaviour of her new in-laws. Despite concerted efforts by her husband, Vishal, and his family to pacify her, she remained steadfast in her refusal to stay.
Panchayat Intervention and Mutual Separation
As tensions escalated, the bride's parents arrived and attempted to convince their daughter, but to no avail. With the standoff continuing, a local panchayat was convened to mediate the dispute. After nearly five hours of discussions, the matter was resolved with both parties agreeing to end the marriage by mutual consent.
All items and gifts exchanged during the wedding were returned. In a stark departure from tradition, the groom signed divorce papers on the same night that was meant for the 'suhaagraat' or wedding night. The incident was reported to Dial 112, the emergency services number, but no formal police complaint was lodged.
Bhaluani police station in-charge Pradeep Pandey confirmed the sequence of events, stating that the separation was mutually agreed upon in the panchayat itself and did not escalate into a legal case.
