Gurgaon's Life.Styled Club Launches Inaugural Mahjong and Mocha Gathering
The distinctive click of Mahjong tiles and the rich aroma of mocha coffee created a vibrant atmosphere at Gurgaon's Life.Styled Club's debut Mahjong and Mocha session. Held at DLF Club 5 on a recent Sunday, this event offered city residents a refreshing break from digital screens, inviting them to engage in slow-paced play over coffee and traditional games.
Learning the Basics in a Supportive Environment
Hosts from the Mahjong Studio expertly guided attendees through the fundamental lingo and rules of Mahjong, ensuring a smooth introduction for newcomers. Participants were seated in groups of four at tables adorned with colorful tiles and detailed instruction pamphlets. As iced mochas circulated, the games commenced, with strangers initially collaborating as teammates before transitioning into lighthearted competition.
Community Engagement and Personal Experiences
Sunita Singh, a local pastry chef, expressed enthusiasm for the event, noting, "The hosts taught us the rules and are guiding us through the game as well. Though this is my first time playing in a community like this, I'd love to try more such activities on weekends." Similarly, Vibha Singh, a retired teacher who first played Mahjong in the US a decade ago, appreciated the cultural variations, saying, "It's different in every city and, of course, countries too, so it's fun to learn those variations. It's nice to connect with new people and also spend time with friends."
Fostering Belonging Through Curated Events
Rajat Kumar, General Manager of DLF Club 5, highlighted the club's mission, stating, "Our approach is thoughtfully layered, we engage residents through personalised communication, curated calendars, and interest-led programming that encourages participation across age groups. By blending sophistication with inclusivity, the club becomes a natural extension of the community – where interactions feel effortless, and every event fosters a deeper sense of belonging." Diya Roopchand Kaul, co-founder of Mahjong Studio, added, "Seeing participants gain confidence, celebrate small wins, and enjoy the game together is what makes these events so enjoyable. I genuinely love introducing people to Mahjong, so while we were guiding and supporting the group, we were also having just as much fun."
Hosting with Warmth and Shared Joy
Vasundhara Sinha, co-founder of Mahjong Studio, shared her experience, remarking, "Hosting a group of beginners is always special because you get to witness the moment when the game starts to click with them. The energy at Mahjong and Mocha was warm, curious, and full of laughter – exactly the kind of atmosphere we love to create. It felt less like a formal lesson and more like a shared experience around the table." The event successfully combined games and camaraderie, offering a unique social experience in Gurgaon.
