Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan Reportedly Acquire Waterfront Mansion on Exclusive Miami Island

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan, are reportedly in the process of purchasing a luxurious waterfront mansion on Indian Creek Island, located near Miami. According to a detailed report by The Wall Street Journal, this acquisition will position the high-profile couple as direct neighbors to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos on this highly exclusive 300-acre island.

The Exclusive Enclave of Indian Creek Island

Indian Creek Island is an artificial island that stands as one of America's most sought-after and private neighborhoods. It features only 41 residential lots and is home to approximately 84 residents, with property prices typically starting at an astounding $60 million. The island operates as an independent municipality with its own local government and a dedicated private police force that conducts patrols by air, water, and land to ensure unparalleled security.

Access to the island is strictly controlled through a single gated bridge, making safety and privacy its defining characteristics. The interior of the island boasts an 18-hole golf course and the prestigious Indian Creek Country Club, which maintains a limited membership due to a rigorous admissions process and a hefty $500,000 initiation fee.

Details of Zuckerberg's Reported Property

Zuckerberg's reported property is situated on the western side of Indian Creek Island, an area also occupied by Jeff Bezos, who owns two lots there. This western section is particularly coveted because it offers larger lots of about 80,000 square feet, compared to 50,000 square feet on the east side. It provides superior access to the open waters of Biscayne Bay and expansive, picturesque sunset views.

While the report did not confirm whether Zuckerberg's deal has officially closed, Miami-Dade County property records indicate the owner is listed as a land trust. One of Zuckerberg's future neighbors, Irma Braman—wife of billionaire car dealer Norman Braman—informed The Wall Street Journal that Zuckerberg revealed his intention to move into the property by April 2025.

Property Valuation and Market Trends

In a statement to Fortune, Mick Duchon, a Miami Beach real estate agent with the Corcoran Group, disclosed that Zuckerberg's newly completed luxury property at 2 Indian Creek Island Road is valued between $150 million and $200 million. This purchase would significantly augment his existing portfolio of luxury homes across the United States.

Duchon emphasized, "That side of the island is perceived to be the most appealing." The report further noted that vacant lots on Indian Creek Island have sold for as much as $105 million in 2025, highlighting the intense demand and premium pricing in this exclusive market.

Broader Context of Billionaire Real Estate Moves

Zuckerberg joins a growing list of billionaires acquiring high-end properties in Florida. This trend coincides with a proposed ballot initiative in California that aims to impose a one-time 5% "billionaires tax" on individuals worth at least $1 billion, retroactive to January 1, 2026. Despite this, Zuckerberg continues to maintain California as his primary residence, having recently invested $50 million through Meta in a downtown revitalization and AI-focused project in Sacramento.

Other tech magnates are also making similar moves. Google co-founder Larry Page recently purchased a $173 million compound in Miami's Coconut Grove neighborhood, comprising two waterfront lots. Indian Creek Island itself is already home to several prominent figures, including financier Carl Icahn and former NFL quarterback Tom Brady.

Jeff Bezos's Expanding Presence on the Island

Jeff Bezos has been actively expanding his footprint on Indian Creek Island since announcing his relocation from Seattle to Florida in 2023. In that year, he purchased a $68 million home that will be situated just a few doors away from Zuckerberg's reported property. Later in 2023, Bezos paid an additional $79 million for a neighboring lot, with plans to combine them into a single, expansive compound.

Mick Duchon noted that this trend of merging lots is becoming increasingly common among wealthy buyers due to the scarcity of truly large waterfront properties in the area. Currently, Bezos resides in a third Mediterranean-style property on the east side of the island, which he acquired for $87 million in 2024. Last year, he also sold one of his Seattle homes overlooking Lake Washington for $63 million, as reported by the Puget Sound Business Journal.

This real estate activity underscores the ongoing migration of tech billionaires to Florida's most exclusive enclaves, driven by factors such as tax considerations, privacy, and luxury amenities.
