In a heartwarming initiative, Uttar Pradesh Tourism organized a special 'Lucknow Darshan' bus tour for 30 cancer patients on Tuesday. The event was thoughtfully scheduled on the eve of World Cancer Awareness Day, highlighting the government's commitment to using tourism for social good.
A Special Afternoon of Sightseeing and Smiles
The tour was conducted using the UP State Tourism Development Corporation's (UPSTDC) double-decker electric Lucknow Darshan bus. This special afternoon service was arranged in addition to the regular sightseeing trips, ensuring that the patients received a dedicated and comfortable experience.
Government's Vision for Tourism with a Purpose
Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh emphasized that this initiative reflects the government's belief in tourism's potential to play a meaningful social role. "The effort was meant to give patients a moment of joy and emotional strength by taking them beyond hospital walls," he stated, underscoring the therapeutic value of such outings.
Patients Reconnect with Life Beyond Treatment
Several participants described the outing as a rare opportunity to reconnect with life outside their rigorous treatment schedules. For many, it was a refreshing break from the clinical environment of hospitals.
Rajni Verma, one of the patients, shared her memorable experience of visiting the Vidhan Sabha from inside. "We usually only see such places on television. Being there in person gave me hope and happiness," she expressed, highlighting how the tour boosted her spirits.
Emotional and Therapeutic Benefits Observed
Dr. Abhishek, who accompanied the group, noted the positive impact on the patients. "Patients were smiling and interacting with the guide, and enjoying the attention when people stopped to photograph the bus. These moments are emotionally therapeutic," he observed, pointing out the psychological benefits of the excursion.
Expanding Responsible Tourism Initiatives
Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism) Amrit Abhijat described the service as a platform for responsible tourism and social outreach. He affirmed that similar initiatives would be expanded in the future to make tourism more accessible and impactful for various communities.
This initiative not only provided a day of enjoyment for the cancer patients but also set a precedent for how tourism can be leveraged for social welfare, promoting inclusivity and emotional well-being.
