Kolkata Embraces Stylish Holi Celebrations with Trendy T-Shirts and Advanced Water Guns
In Kolkata, white slogan T-shirts have become the top attraction ahead of Holi, with designs featuring film-inspired themes such as 'Pushpa', along with popular slogans like 'Happy Holi' and 'Dhol', experiencing rapid sales. This trend highlights a shift towards more fashionable and coordinated festive wear among the youth.
Vendors and Shoppers Highlight Demand for New Styles
Raju Shaw, a vendor in Janbazar, noted, "Demand for printed white T-shirts is much higher this year. Youngsters want something stylish and new instead of wearing old clothes." College student Aniket Das, shopping with friends, explained the appeal of coordinated outfits, saying, "We decided that all of us will wear the same printed T-shirts. It looks better in pictures and feels more festive." This reflects a growing emphasis on aesthetics and group harmony during celebrations.
Electric Pichkaris Gain Popularity with Advanced Features
In the water-gun segment, battery-operated pichkaris have risen to prominence this season. The electric water gun, priced at around Rs 1,500, is among the best-selling items. Traders report that the device requires about 30 minutes of charging and can spray colored water up to 30 feet. High-range variants, marketed as 'Missile Launcher' guns, claim to reach nearly 40 feet, offering enhanced fun and range for Holi enthusiasts.
Safety and Innovation Drive Product Choices
Priyanka Sen, purchasing colors and a pichkari for her nephew, emphasized safety, stating, "We are choosing herbal colors this time. Earlier, my nephew got skin irritation, so we are being cautious now." This trend towards safer, herbal alternatives aligns with increased health awareness during the festival.
Additionally, innovative products like smoke gulal canisters, priced at around Rs 300, release colored smoke for a few minutes and are in high demand among youth groups hosting parties. Another product, 'Thunder Gulal', resembles a fire extinguisher and offers continuous color spray, including triple-color variants, adding a dynamic element to Holi festivities.
Overall, Kolkata's Holi market is thriving with a blend of fashion-forward apparel and technologically advanced toys, catering to the evolving preferences of celebrants seeking both style and safety in their festive preparations.
