UP Diwas 2024: Lucknow to Host Grand Cultural Extravaganza with Monumental Art and Technology

The city of Lucknow is set to transform into a vibrant cultural hub as Uttar Pradesh prepares to celebrate its foundation day, UP Diwas, with a spectacular three-day event from January 24 to January 26. Multiple state agencies have meticulously planned an array of exhibitions, artistic displays, and performances at the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal, promising an immersive experience that blends traditional heritage with modern technology.

Monumental Artistic Tributes and Traditional Exhibitions

One of the most anticipated highlights of the celebrations is a colossal 150-foot-tall painting featuring the complete version of the patriotic hymn Vande Mataram. This ambitious project is being executed by the UP State Lalit Kala Akademi in collaboration with the Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre. Sunil Vishwakarma, Chairperson of the State Lalit Kala Akademi, revealed that talented artists from historic cities including Kashi, Prayagraj, Mathura, Agra, and Lucknow are contributing to this magnificent creation, symbolizing unity and artistic excellence across the state.

Simultaneously, the State Museum in Lucknow will captivate visitors with an exclusive exhibition titled Kala Mein Krishna. This showcase will present approximately 60 exquisite artworks, comprising 55 paintings and four sculptures. Vinay Singh, Director of the State Museum, explained that the paintings will beautifully illustrate various episodes from Lord Krishna's life and his profound teachings, while the sculptures will depict his familial bonds, divine love for Radha, and the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. The artistic styles on display will include the delicate Kangra and Garhwal traditions, along with the regal Jaipur and intricate Mughal techniques, offering a diverse visual feast.

Technological Innovations and Archival Insights

Adding a contemporary twist to the celebrations, the UP State Archaeological Directorate (UPSAD) will leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance visitor engagement. Renu Dwivedi, Director of UPSAD, announced that the directorate will host an exhibition featuring photographs of state-protected monuments. Furthermore, attendees will be treated to augmented reality and virtual reality experiences, alongside short films that provide immersive insights into these historical sites, making heritage accessible in an interactive format.

In a nod to historical documentation, the UP State Archives (UPSA) will organize a thought-provoking exhibition that delves into the state's formation. Amit Agnihotri, Director of UPSA, shared that this display will include rare public records and documents tracing the evolution of Uttar Pradesh's name before its finalization in 1950. Additionally, to honor the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, paintings depicting his life and contributions will be prominently featured, adding a layer of historical reverence to the festivities.

Vibrant Performances and Theatrical Presentations

The cultural panorama will be further enriched by dynamic performances curated by the UP Sangeet Natak Akademi. Musical renditions representing various gharanas (traditional schools) from across the state will resonate through the venue. Students from Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya will grace the stage with classical dance forms, including Kathak and Bharatanatyam, as confirmed by Prof Mandavi Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the university.

Complementing the dance and music, the Bhartendu Natya Akademi (BNA) will present a historical play, adding a dramatic element to the celebrations. Bipin Kumar, Director of BNA, expressed enthusiasm for this theatrical contribution, which aims to educate and entertain audiences with narratives from Uttar Pradesh's rich past.

This comprehensive lineup of events underscores Uttar Pradesh's commitment to preserving its cultural legacy while embracing innovation. From the awe-inspiring 150-foot Vande Mataram painting to the interactive AR/VR shows and diverse artistic performances, UP Diwas 2024 in Lucknow promises to be a memorable celebration of the state's identity, creativity, and historical significance.
