TTD Announces Major Rs 100 Crore Sri Venkateshwara Temple Project in Belagavi
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has unveiled ambitious plans to construct a grand Sri Venkateshwara temple on a seven-acre site near the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi. This significant religious infrastructure project is specifically designed to cater to the spiritual needs of devotees from North Karnataka, Goa, and southern Maharashtra, creating a new pilgrimage destination in the region.
Construction Timeline and Financial Framework
Construction work on this monumental temple is scheduled to commence within the next month, with an expected completion timeframe of two years. The total project cost has been pegged at approximately Rs 100 crore, featuring a structured funding model that ensures broad participation.
The financial breakdown is as follows:
- 80% of the funding will be provided directly by TTD
- 10% will be contributed by the Reddy Sangha organization
- The remaining 10% will be raised through public donations
Land Donation and Strategic Location
The land for this prestigious temple has been generously donated by the Belagavi Reddy Sangha, with a formal handover ceremony conducted at Reddy Bhavan in Sadashiv Nagar on Tuesday. TTD officials have indicated plans to acquire additional land in the vicinity to develop comprehensive infrastructure facilities for pilgrims visiting the temple complex.
Addressing journalists at a press conference, TTD governing board member S Naresh Kumar emphasized Belagavi's strategic geographical advantage. "Belagavi's location at the tri-junction of Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa gives it tremendous potential to develop into a major spiritual hub," Kumar stated. "This shrine will significantly enhance the regional pilgrimage circuit, particularly benefiting devotees who visit the Mahalaxmi temple in Kolhapur."
Architectural and Ritual Specifications
The new temple will meticulously mirror the design and ritual practices of the original Tirupati shrine, ensuring authenticity in religious experience. The comprehensive facility will include:
- Accommodation facilities for visiting devotees
- Organized prasadam distribution systems
- Free round-the-clock meal services for pilgrims
Broader TTD Revenue Strategy and National Presence
Naresh Kumar also revealed that TTD has established an ambitious revenue target of Rs 9,000 crore from paid darshan tickets across its network of temples. These funds will support the maintenance and development of TTD-managed temples and associated infrastructure throughout the country. Currently, TTD oversees temples at six strategic locations across India, with the Belagavi project representing a significant expansion of their religious and cultural footprint.
This temple project represents more than just religious infrastructure—it symbolizes a strategic investment in regional spiritual tourism and cultural connectivity. By establishing this major temple complex at the crossroads of three states, TTD aims to create a lasting spiritual legacy that will serve generations of devotees while boosting local economic activity through pilgrimage tourism.
