In a significant move to manage the massive influx of devotees and streamline offerings, the revered Banke Bihari Temple in Agra has undergone a key infrastructural change. Steel railings have been installed along a major pathway within the temple complex. This initiative, supervised by the temple management committee, aims to prevent crowding and ensure that all donations are made through official channels, directly benefiting the temple treasury.
A New System for Smoother Pilgrimage
The installation work, carried out by a private agency, commenced earlier this week. The focus was on creating a dedicated walking path from entry gate number 3, through the rear courtyard, and up to the slope leading to the main courtyard. To avoid disrupting the daily worship and the heavy daytime footfall, the construction activities were strategically conducted during the night.
By Saturday, devotees entering through this newly arranged section reported a noticeable improvement. The movement was smoother, and the wait time for darshan (holy viewing) was reduced. Officials confirmed that three parallel railings have been placed along this stretch to guide the crowd effectively.
Directing Devotion: Ensuring Offerings Reach the Temple
The primary objective behind this new arrangement extends beyond just crowd control. A member of the temple administration highlighted a persistent issue: "Earlier, donations were often given to sevayats (temple attendants) along with prasad, which did not always reach the temple treasury."
The new layout is designed to address this directly. Once the full system is completed from entry to exit, it will ensure that devotees walk continuously along the designated path without stopping midway. This prevents informal offering of prasad, dakshina (monetary offering), or garlands to individuals along the way. Instead, donation boxes (golaks) are being placed along the railings, allowing devotees to deposit their offerings directly into the temple's official collection system.

The new measures are expected to bring long-term benefits in temple management. By regulating the footfall in a more orderly fashion, the safety and experience of devotees are enhanced.
