The vibrant festival of Lohri illuminated Mohali on Tuesday, filling the city with warmth and traditional joy. Residents gathered around crackling bonfires in various localities, sharing greetings and enjoying seasonal treats like peanuts, rewari, gajak, and popcorn. Markets buzzed with activity, while offices and public spaces embraced the festive spirit, making the winter evening colorful and lively.
Municipal Corporation Office Hosts Special Event
At the Municipal Corporation office, a special Lohri celebration took center stage. Municipal Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh ceremoniously lit the bonfire, surrounded by senior officials and staff members. He emphasized the festival's significance, stating it symbolizes mutual brotherhood, prosperity, and social harmony. Celebrating together, he noted, reflects the enduring strength of cultural traditions that bind communities.
Police Station and Markets Join the Festivities
The Sohana police station also witnessed enthusiastic Lohri celebrations. Under the leadership of DSP Harsimran Singh Bal, officers and staff lit a bonfire and sang traditional songs, promoting a message of communal unity. Key attendees included DSP Karnail Singh and several station house officers from different phases. Meanwhile, Phase-2 and Phase-8 markets, along with malls across the Tricity, added to the festive atmosphere with decorations and events.
Cultural Programs at Malls and Colleges
HLP Mall in CP67 celebrated Lohri with the theme "Virsey De Rang HLP De Sang," showcasing Punjabi folk culture and heritage. Kamla Sisodia, CM Security Officer, attended as the Guest of Honour. Organizers highlighted that such cultural programs help connect younger generations with their roots, preserving rich traditions for the future.
At Ratan Professional College in Sohana, girls celebrated with great energy. Ashwani Sambhalki, head of Rabab Production Mohali, served as chief guest, while actress Saanvi Dhiman attended as special guest. College head Sunder Lal Agarwal welcomed guests and inaugurated the event by lighting the bonfire. Sambhalki explained the cultural and social importance of Lohri to students, who responded with vibrant dance performances.
Agarwal remarked that many students live in hostels and come from different parts of the country. Through these celebrations, they get introduced to Punjab's rich culture, fostering a sense of belonging. He also announced plans for kite-flying competitions on Basant Panchami, continuing the festive spirit.

CGC University in Mohali celebrated "Dheeyan Di Lohri" with deep social meaning. Founder-Chancellor Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal emphasized that this festival is not just a celebration but a reminder of the responsibility to nurture and empower daughters. Managing Director Arsh Dhaliwal added that such events at CGC aim to drive positive social change. The celebration concluded with a traditional bonfire, symbolizing unity, hope, and collective progress for all.
