Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his monthly broadcast Mann ki Baat on Sunday, expressed admiration for the youth of India who are wholeheartedly embracing the emerging cultural phenomenon of bhajan-clubbing. He described this trend as a powerful and harmonious blend of devotion, culture, spirituality, and modernity that is striking a deep chord with Generation Z across the nation.
Bhajan-Clubbing: A Contemporary Take on Ancient Traditions
Modi elaborated that bhajan-clubbing involves large gatherings, particularly of young people, who come together in community settings to collectively sing bhajans and devotional songs. He emphasized that these events are no less than global concerts in their scale and ambiance. The Prime Minister highlighted how this trend represents a wonderful effort to integrate spirituality with contemporary lifestyles while meticulously preserving the sacred essence of traditional bhajans.
Reflecting on the historical significance, Modi noted that bhajans and kirtans have been the very soul of Indian culture for centuries. Modi described scenes where large numbers of youth assemble in different cities across India. In his address, Modi also commended the Indian community in Malaysia for their efforts towards promoting language diversity in schools. He highlighted that there are now more than 500 Tamil schools in Malaysia, where not only the Tamil language is taught but other subjects are also instructed in Tamil, preserving linguistic heritage abroad.
Additionally, the Prime Minister praised the United Arab Emirates for its initiative to declare 2026 as the Year of the Family, drawing parallels to India's own cherished family system, which is an integral part of the country's traditions and social fabric.
