Haveri Hosts Major Sunni Ijtema After 25 Years, 15,000 Expected
Major Sunni Ijtema in Haveri After 25-Year Gap

The historic city of Haveri in Karnataka is set to witness a significant religious and spiritual convergence this week. For the first time in 25 years, a national-level Sunni Training Ijtema, a major Islamic congregation and lecture programme, is being organised in the state. The event marks a pivotal moment for the community, reviving a tradition that was last held in Hubballi in 1999.

A Historic Gathering Returns to Karnataka

The two-day programme is scheduled for December 20 and 21. It will be held on a vast open ground next to the national highway on the outskirts of Haveri city. This gathering is a central part of the Jashn-e-Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrations, which themselves commemorate a tradition spanning an impressive 1500 years.

The responsibility for orchestrating this large-scale event lies with the office bearers of the Jamaat Raza-e-Mustafa society's state unit. In preparation for the thousands of anticipated visitors, organisers have constructed a grand stage and are putting up temporary basic facilities to accommodate participants travelling from various districts within Karnataka and from other states across India.

Event Schedule and Distinguished Speakers

The Ijtema will feature separate lecture sessions for women and men on consecutive days. On December 20, dedicated sessions for women will run from 11 am to 5 pm. This will be followed by sessions for men on December 21, also from 11 am to 5 pm.

The event will see discourses from several eminent Muslim religious scholars and leaders. The list of speakers includes prominent figures such as:

  • Mufti Muhammad Asjad Raza
  • Mufti Zia-ul-Mustafa Qadri
  • Muhammad Hussam Ahmad Raza
  • Mufti Ashiq Hussain Kashmiri
  • Mufti Abu Yusuf Muhammad Qadri
  • Mufti Muhammad Shahid Raza

Logistics, Security, and Massive Turnout

Organisers have projected a massive turnout, with around 15,000 people expected to attend from across Karnataka and other Indian states. To manage this influx, extensive arrangements are in place.

Volunteers have been appointed to oversee all logistical arrangements. A dedicated parking area spanning approximately five acres of land has been allocated to separately accommodate cars and bikes. Given the event's location adjacent to the busy national highway, local authorities are particularly focused on traffic management.

Haveri Superintendent of Police Yashoda Vantagodi has confirmed comprehensive security and traffic plans. "Police will ensure smooth vehicle movement and security for both days," stated SP Vantagodi. The police deployment aims to prevent any untoward incidents and manage the heavy traffic expected on the highway due to the congregation.

The return of the Sunni Training Ijtema to Karnataka after a quarter-century gap is being seen as a momentous occasion for the community, fostering spiritual learning and unity on a grand scale.
