From wood-fired boilers to diesel stoves, these measures are designed to ensure that thousands of devotees receive nourishment during the festivities. The severe LPG scarcity has compelled institutions that typically depend on gas cylinders to diversify their fuel sources extensively.
Several gurdwaras have already transitioned to steam-based cooking systems powered entirely by wood, demonstrating remarkable adaptability in the face of logistical challenges. Balwinder Singh Lyallpuri of Gurdwara Shaheedan Pheruman provided specific details about their approach: "Most of our cooking is accomplished using steam generated from wood-fired boilers. Only the degh—the large cauldron used for preparing sacred pudding and other special dishes—requires LPG, and we have secured sufficient stock for that purpose. We do not anticipate any issues arising during Baisakhi."
At Gurdwara Nanaksar located at Samrala Chowk, administrators have proactively stockpiled timber as a primary contingency measure. Committee member Lakhwinder Singh explained their preparedness: "We have arranged substantial quantities of wood. If the necessity arises, langar preparations can be shifted completely to wood fire without compromising service quality."

Gurdeep Singh Bajaj, president of the Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Sarabha Nagar, revealed that his kitchen has deliberately moved away from gas-intensive culinary items. They have selected rumali roti over tandoori varieties, as these thinner breads require significantly less heat and cooking time compared to traditional tandoori or tawa rotis.
The streamlining extends to vegetable dishes (sabzi) and sweets, with menus being simplified to reduce boiling durations substantially. Additionally, technicians have been engaged to repair and service diesel stoves as a secondary fail-safe mechanism, creating multiple layers of culinary security.
