Lucknow's 'Saga of Stories' Season 2 Showcases Young Talent

A vibrant celebration of youthful creativity unfolded in Lucknow this Sunday, as the Doremi Club presented the second season of its 'Saga of Stories' event. The showcase, held at the International Buddhist Research Centre, featured a special play performed by children following an intensive 10-day workshop.

Young Actors Take the Stage

The event saw the enthusiastic participation of around 32 children, all above the age of 10, who displayed their acting prowess to an audience comprising their proud parents and family members. The play was the culmination of their hard work during the workshop, designed to nurture their artistic talents.

One of the participants, Gurbaaj Singh, shared his excitement, stating, "It was a wonderful experience. I learnt many things in the workshop and made new friends." His sentiment echoed the overall positive and educational atmosphere of the initiative.

A Tapestry of Iconic Narratives

The performance was a creative amalgamation of several legendary stories. The scene work drew rich inspiration from a diverse set of sources:

  • The novel The Great Wizard of Oz
  • Satyajit Ray's film Shatranj Ke Khiladi
  • The Indian epic Ramayana
  • Charles Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol
  • The drama The Sacred Tree

In particular, the segment based on The Sacred Tree powerfully highlighted how baseless speculation and gossip can damage harmony and strain personal relationships. The play concluded with a strong message, emphasizing the crucial importance of emotional awareness and disciplined conduct in life.

Director's Insight on Child Creativity

The play was written and directed by Apurva Shah, who expressed his delight at the children's engagement. He observed, "The workshop brought out the creative side of children, how they imitated, acted and presented each character with full enthusiasm."

Shah further added that the process was collaborative, with many young participants offering creative suggestions to enhance their characters during portrayal. This interaction highlighted the workshop's success in not just instructing but also listening to and valuing the children's own imaginative inputs.

The 'Saga of Stories' Season 2 event successfully provided a platform for Lucknow's young talent to explore theatre, understand timeless narratives, and develop key interpersonal skills through the powerful medium of performance art.
