Kolkata Exhibition Celebrates Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay's Literary Legacy
A special exhibition titled 'Pather Debota – God of the Little Road' is set to honor the life and works of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, one of Bengal's most revered literary figures. The exhibition will be on view from March 24 to April 19 at the Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC), offering a deep dive into the author's world.
Inaugural Ceremony and Distinguished Guests
The exhibition was inaugurated by notable personalities including Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay, Aparna Sen, and Mitra Bandyopadhyay, the daughter-in-law of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. Also present were Trinankur Banerjee, the curator and grandson of the author, and Richa Agarwal, chairperson of KCC and CEO of Emami Art. This gathering highlighted the cultural significance of the event.
Exhibition Highlights and Archival Treasures
Curated exclusively by Trinankur Banerjee, the exhibition brings together a rich collection of rare archival materials. Visitors can explore:
- Original manuscripts and handwritten letters

These items provide an intimate glimpse into Bandyopadhyay's creative process and personal life, shedding light on the inspirations behind classics like Pather Panchali, Chander Pahar, and Aranyak.
Interdisciplinary Programs and Inclusive Events
Alongside the exhibition, KCC will host a series of programs designed to explore different dimensions of Bandyopadhyay's literary legacy. The lineup includes:

Vision and Commemoration
Richa Agarwal, chairperson of KCC, emphasized the center's commitment to fostering spaces where literature, art, and public engagement converge. "Celebrating the life and work of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay through this exhibition is a natural extension of that vision. His writing continues to influence the cultural imagination of Bengal and beyond," she stated.
Trinankur Banerjee added, "It gives me immense pleasure to commemorate the centenary of the writing of Pather Panchali—one of the most significant novels in Bengali literature—with the help of the KCC and Emami Foundation. From family archives, hitherto unseen documents and artefacts will be on display to string together a life little understood."
This exhibition not only celebrates a literary giant but also aims to bring audiences closer to his enduring legacy through immersive and inclusive experiences.
