Kolkata Book Fair 2026 Boosts Fire Safety with Extinguishers for Every Stall
Kolkata Book Fair 2026 Enhances Fire Safety Measures

The International Kolkata Book Fair 2026 is set to open on January 22 at the Salt Lake Central Park fairground. Organizers have announced robust fire safety measures to ensure a secure environment for all attendees and exhibitors.

Comprehensive Fire Safety Plan

Every stall at the upcoming book fair will receive fire extinguishers. This initiative aims to tackle any potential fire emergencies effectively. The Publishers and Booksellers Guild, along with other stakeholders, finalized these arrangements during a recent coordination meeting.

Enhanced Fire-Fighting Systems

The fire department will deploy several fire tenders inside the fairground. Additionally, all book stalls will have access to fire extinguishers. Mukesh, the Bidhannagar Police commissioner, confirmed these details. He emphasized the importance of preparedness for any emergency situation.

"We are implementing comprehensive police arrangements with CCTV surveillance," Mukesh stated. "The fire department will keep a few fire tenders on site. Fire extinguishers will be provided to all the book stalls. We will also offer minimum training to stall operators so they can use the extinguishers if needed."

Distribution of Fire Extinguishers

Guild officials explained the distribution plan for the fire extinguishers. Larger stalls will each receive their own extinguisher. For smaller stalls, one extinguisher will serve every two stalls. This approach ensures that all vendors have immediate access to fire-fighting equipment.

"The registered vendor of the fire department will supply the extinguishers," said Tridib Chatterjee, the guild's general secretary. This arrangement guarantees that all equipment meets official safety standards.

Coordination and Inspection

The Publishers and Booksellers Guild held a coordination meeting with all stakeholders on Tuesday. Participants included representatives from the Bidhannagar police. The group inspected the fairground to assess the ground infrastructure and preparations.

This proactive step ensures that all safety measures are in place before the fair begins. The inspection focused on evaluating existing facilities and identifying areas for improvement. Organizers are committed to creating a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Training for Stall Operators

An essential part of the safety plan involves training stall operators. They will receive basic instruction on how to use fire extinguishers. This training aims to empower them to respond quickly in case of a fire emergency.

The combination of equipment and training enhances overall safety. It reduces the risk of fire-related incidents during the event. Organizers believe that preparedness is key to managing any unforeseen situations.

Looking Ahead to IKBF 2026

The International Kolkata Book Fair 2026 promises to be a major cultural event. With enhanced fire safety measures, attendees can focus on enjoying the literary offerings. The fair will feature a wide range of books and activities for all ages.

Organizers continue to work closely with local authorities. They aim to address all aspects of event management, from security to logistics. The fair's success depends on careful planning and collaboration among all parties involved.

As the opening date approaches, final preparations are underway. The emphasis on fire safety reflects a commitment to protecting both people and property. Visitors can look forward to a well-organized and secure book fair experience.
