Kashi Vishwanath Dham's Spectacular Light Show Returns After Ganga Flood Disruption
In a significant development for devotees and tourists, the captivating light and sound show at Kashi Vishwanath Dham has been successfully restarted at Lalita Ghat along the Ganga Dwar in Varanasi. This revival occurred on Saturday evening, marking the end of a prolonged hiatus that lasted several months due to severe damage caused by rising water levels in the Ganga river.
Months of Inactivity Due to Flooding and Equipment Damage
According to Vishwa Bhushan Mishra, the chief executive officer of the temple, the show was halted for an extended period because the sudden surge in the Ganga's water levels in 2025 submerged all the poles and machinery essential for the production. The equipment became inoperable as it was filled with silt, necessitating extensive repairs and maintenance before it could be operational again.
To address this challenge, a specialized team comprising experts and technicians was summoned from Mumbai to assist in the restoration efforts. Their expertise was crucial in repairing the damaged components and ensuring the show could be safely and effectively resumed.
Trial Run and Integration with Ganga Aarti
Prior to the official restart, a trial show was conducted on Friday evening to test the functionality and quality of the restored equipment. This trial featured a mesmerizing depiction of Lalita Ghat and the rich, glorious history of Kashi, captivating attendees with its visual and auditory splendor.
The show now runs daily, immediately following the completion of the Ganga aarti, which was recently initiated at Lalita Ghat by the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust. The restart was celebrated amidst chants of 'Har Har Mahadev', adding a spiritual ambiance to the event.
Enhanced Vibrancy for Devotees and Visitors
Mishra emphasized that the combination of the Ganga aarti and the light and sound show will significantly enhance the vibrancy and attraction of the site for devotees. This twin offering is expected to draw larger crowds and provide a more immersive cultural and religious experience.
