Hukkerimath Jatra: Swamiji Stresses Virtues for Societal Growth in Haveri
Hukkerimath Jatra: Sadashiva Swamiji on Virtues & Society

In a spiritually charged atmosphere, the historic town of Haveri witnessed the vibrant celebrations of the Hukkerimath Jatra festival. The highlight was a profound discourse by Sadashiva Swamiji of Hukkerimath, who emphasized the pivotal role of virtues and good conduct in shaping a prosperous society and stable family life.

A Message of Righteous Living at Ramadevara Temple

The spiritual leader delivered his address at the Ramadevara Temple in Haveri during the Nammura Jatra festival. Swamiji articulated a clear dichotomy between the paths of virtue and vice. He stated that while vices possess the destructive power to ruin an individual, it is virtues and righteous behavior that pave the way for personal and collective growth.

Elaborating on making life meaningful, Swamiji advised the congregation to seek the company of good people and consciously distance themselves from negative influences. He warned that the bad habits of even a single family member can create discord and disruption for the entire household. Conversely, a home built on a foundation of strong values invariably moves towards prosperity and peace.

"In this context, vices are detrimental to building a healthy society and family," declared Sadashiva Swamiji, pinpointing the societal cost of immoral conduct.

Addressing Modern Familial Challenges

Swamiji also touched upon contemporary social issues, noting that we live in an era where children often disregard the guidance of their elders. He described this as a complex challenge and underscored the crucial responsibility of parents, particularly women, in nurturing a stable and harmonious family environment. According to him, such stability is the essential bedrock for a peaceful and fulfilling life.

Grand Procession Marks Festival Celebrations

The spiritual discourse was preceded by a grand and colourful procession that encapsulated the festive fervour. Led by Sadashiva Swamiji himself, the procession commenced at Nayaka Chaal in the city.

The vibrant parade then wound its way through several significant routes, including Dyamavva Gudi Oni, Desai Galli, Koragara Oni, and the Mudduragemma Temple, before culminating at the Ramadevara Temple. Devotees, especially women, participated enthusiastically, carrying poornakumbhas (sacred pots symbolizing abundance) as part of the traditional rituals.

In preparation for the festival, the devotees of Hukkerimath engaged in thorough cleaning of their homes and streets. They decorated their surroundings and drew intricate rangolis at their doorsteps. The community also paid homage by worshipping the portraits of revered figures like Shivabasava Swamiji, Shivalingeshwara Swamiji, Vishwaguru Basavanna, and Hangal Kumaraswami, showcasing deep-rooted cultural and spiritual traditions.
