Historian Ramchandra Morwanchikar Dies at 88 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Renowned historian, author, and archaeologist Ramchandra Morwanchikar died due to old age in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Saturday night. He was eighty-eight years old.

Hospital Treatment and Family Details

Morwanchikar was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city for the past few days. He passed away around 11 pm on Saturday. His family includes two sons, a daughter, daughters-in-law, a son-in-law, and grandchildren. The last rites were performed at the Pratap Nagar crematorium on Sunday morning.

Academic Career and Contributions

Morwanchikar served as the head of the History Department at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. He also directed the Tourism Administration Department there. He spent around four decades in the teaching profession.

Literary and Research Achievements

He wrote sixteen books and published over two hundred research papers on different reputed platforms. Morwanchikar guided nearly one hundred fifty students in their research work. He made significant contributions to archaeological excavations at Paithan.

Focus on Paithan and Water Culture

Morwanchikar authored an important book titled ‘Pratishthan to Paithan'. This book throws light on various kingdoms in Paithan. He did extensive research in the field of history and culture. His work particularly focused on the historic city of Paithan and other heritage sites in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Searching for evidence from prehistoric times, Morwanchikar believed that water is the tool for writing history. He presented the concept of water culture. To raise awareness about water management, he started the Indian Water Culture Society.
