Coimbatore Officials Embrace Pongal Spirit with Festive Gatherings
Coimbatore witnessed a vibrant display of Pongal celebrations at key government offices on Tuesday. The district collectorate and the city corporation office transformed into hubs of traditional festivities. Officials and staff members dressed in traditional attire participated enthusiastically in various events.
Festive Atmosphere at the District Collectorates
Collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar led the Pongal celebrations at the district collectorate. He actively joined in multiple activities, including a lively tug of war and an exciting pot breaking competition. The collector also danced alongside other officials, adding to the joyful atmosphere.
The celebrations featured several engaging competitions. A colorful rangoli competition showcased artistic talents. Musical chair games brought laughter and excitement. A singing competition allowed participants to display their vocal skills. Traditional parai melam performances and a thrilling fire dance further energized the festivities.
B G Malini, a senior revenue inspector, shared her thoughts on the occasion. She emphasized that Pongal serves as a traditional festival that unites people across different castes and religions. Such celebrations help strengthen community bonds and remind everyone of their cultural heritage.
City Corporation Joins the Celebrations
At the city corporation office, Mayor R Ranganayaki and Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran spearheaded the Pongal festivities. The day was marked by various cultural and folk performances that highlighted regional traditions.
Deputy Mayor R Vetriselvan danced energetically to the beats of parai melam. Ward councillors and corporation officials joined him in this traditional dance. School students also participated actively in the celebrations, adding youthful enthusiasm to the events.
Mayor Ranganayaki informed that Pongal celebrations were organized across all five zones of the corporation. This ensured widespread participation from different parts of the city.
