The 38th edition of Chandigarh's celebrated Chrysanthemum Show drew to a successful close on Sunday, marking the end of a vibrant three-day floral extravaganza. The event, held at the picturesque Terraced Garden in Sector 33, culminated with a prize distribution ceremony and a series of lively cultural performances, all while steadfastly adhering to zero-waste principles.
A Celebration of Floriculture and Sustainability
City Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla and Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar were among the dignitaries who graced the concluding day. They toured the venue, expressing admiration for the stunning and creatively arranged chrysanthemum displays. The horticulture wing of the Municipal Corporation showcased exceptional skill, crafting intricate animal and bird models entirely from chrysanthemums, which became a major visual attraction for visitors.
Beyond the flowers, the show served as a platform for environmental awareness. Stalls operated by the self-help group initiative PRARAMBH, supported by the MC, promoted crucial practices like waste segregation, home composting, and construction waste management. These stalls also showcased a variety of eco-friendly products, aligning with the event's green ethos.
Zero-Waste Commitment and Cultural Vibrancy
True to its theme, the event implemented strict zero-waste protocols. On-site composting pits were used to manage food waste, and rigorous cleanliness norms were maintained throughout the gardens. This commitment ensured the celebration of nature did not come at an environmental cost.
The festive atmosphere was further amplified by a rich lineup of cultural programmes. Visitors were treated to the energetic rhythms of Punjabi Bhangra and Rajasthani folk dances, the soulful strains of Sufi music, and poetic recitals at a Mushaira. Performances by school students and local artists added to the day's engaging schedule, offering entertainment for all age groups.
Honouring Excellence and a Vote of Thanks
The concluding ceremony focused on recognising talent and hard work. Prizes were awarded across various competition categories for the best floral displays. In a special gesture, the municipal gardeners whose dedication brought the show to life were felicitated for their efforts.
Area Councillor Anju Katyal delivered the vote of thanks, formally marking the end of another successful chapter in the city's horticultural calendar. The 38th Chrysanthemum Show not only displayed floral beauty but also reinforced Chandigarh's growing commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible public events.
