The minister was not alone on this visit. He was accompanied by a delegation that included MP Ashok Yadav, former MLA Haribhushan Thakur Bachaul, and the chairman of the Sanskrit Shiksha Board, Mritunjaya Jha. A Historic Link Across India
The temple in Saurath holds a deep historical and emotional connection to one of India's most revered shrines. According to enduring local folklore, when the original Somnath temple in Saurashtra, Gujarat, was raided by Mahmud of Ghazni, the presiding priests from Saurath are believed to have returned to their native village. To keep the legacy alive, they established this temple and named it Somnath in reverence. The village name "Saurath" itself is thought to be derived from "Saurashtra", forging a timeless link between the two sacred sites across vast geography and centuries.
Timing with a National Milestone
This visit and the focus on the temple's heritage gain special significance as the nation marks a solemn milestone. This year observes the 1,000th anniversary of the attack on the Somnath temple in Gujarat. During his visit, Minister Prasad and other guests also watched the live coverage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's participation in the "Swabhiman Parv" event held at the Gujarat Somnath temple premises, further connecting the local event with the national commemoration.
The minister's proactive step is seen as a crucial move to protect and promote a piece of living history that connects Bihar to a pivotal chapter in India's historical narrative.
