Belagavi Gears Up for Spectacular Shivaji Jayanti Procession
The city of Belagavi is abuzz with preparations for the grand Shivaji Jayanti procession, scheduled to commence on Tuesday evening. This annual cultural spectacle, which celebrates the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is set to draw lakhs of spectators from Belagavi and surrounding regions.
Procession Route and Timings
The procession will begin at 6 PM from Nargundkar Bhave Chowk. It will follow a meticulously planned route through key city landmarks, including:
- Maruti Gali
- Hutatma Chowk
- Ramdev Gali
- Samadevi Gali
- Yandekhoot
- College Road
- Bogarves
- Kirloskar Road
The route will also pass via Ramalingkhind Gali, Tilak Chowk, Hemukalani Chowk, Shani Mandir, and the Kapileshwar Flyover before culminating near the Kapileshwar Temple.
Enhanced Viewing Facilities for the Public
To ensure optimal viewing for the massive crowds expected, the Belagavi City Corporation has taken proactive measures. A dedicated spectator gallery has been installed at Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Chowk. This facility is designed to provide a safe and comfortable vantage point for attendees to witness the procession's grandeur.
Cultural Extravaganza and Participation
The procession promises to be a vibrant display of culture and heritage. More than 70 elaborately decorated tableaux are expected to participate, each depicting various aspects of Shivaji Maharaj's life and achievements. Adding to the spectacle will be traditional martial performances, showcasing skills such as:
- Lathimela (stick fighting)
- Lezim (a rhythmic exercise with wooden instruments)
- Dhal-talvar (shield and sword play)
- Dandpatta (a type of gauntlet sword)
- Zhanjpathak (a martial art form)
Ankush Kesarkar, president of the Central Public Shiv Jayanti Mandal, along with other officebearers, has issued a widespread appeal for participation. They have invited public representatives, dignitaries from social, educational, and cooperative sectors, members of various mandals, and citizens at large to join the procession in large numbers, emphasizing its significance as a unifying community event.
