Amarnath Yatra 2024: 57-Day Pilgrimage Set to Begin on July 3
The sacred annual pilgrimage to the revered Amarnath cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir has been officially scheduled to commence on July 3, 2024. This spiritual journey will span an extensive 57 days, culminating on August 28, which coincides with the auspicious festival of Raksha Bandhan.
Registration and Eligibility Details Announced
In a significant announcement made during a press conference on Sunday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha outlined the key operational details for the upcoming yatra. He confirmed that registrations for the pilgrimage will open on April 15, providing ample time for devotees to prepare.
Eligibility for participation is strictly defined: only pilgrims aged between 13 and 70 years will be permitted to undertake the challenging trek to the holy cave. This age restriction is implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants given the arduous nature of the journey through high-altitude terrain.
Enhanced Safety Measures and Insurance Coverage
A major highlight of this year's arrangements is the substantial upgrade in insurance provisions. Every registered pilgrim will be covered under a comprehensive group accident insurance policy. Notably, the sum assured has been significantly enhanced to Rs 10 lakh per person, reflecting a strong commitment to pilgrim safety and financial security.
This enhanced insurance scheme aims to provide families with greater peace of mind, acknowledging the risks associated with high-altitude pilgrimage travel.
Nationwide Registration Facilities and Spiritual Prelude
To facilitate easy and widespread access, the registration process will be conducted through a vast network of banking institutions. Aspiring pilgrims can complete their registration at 554 designated bank branches across the country operated by:
- Jammu & Kashmir Bank
- Punjab National Bank (PNB)
- State Bank of India (SBI)
- Yes Bank
This decentralized approach ensures that devotees from various regions can register conveniently without the need to travel to Jammu and Kashmir beforehand.
Prior to the main pilgrimage, a crucial spiritual ceremony known as Pratham Pujan will be conducted. This ritual, performed to invoke the divine blessings of Lord Shiva, is scheduled for June 29, which corresponds to the holy day of Jyeshtha Purnima. This puja marks the formal spiritual inauguration of the yatra season.
The 2024 Amarnath Yatra promises to be a well-organized spiritual endeavor, blending ancient tradition with modern administrative planning to ensure a safe and fulfilling experience for thousands of devotees seeking the divine ice lingam at the sacred cave shrine.
