Eurofragance Unveils Olivante®: Upcycled Olive Pulp Revolutionizes Fragrance
Spanish Firm Launches Sustainable Fragrance Ingredient

In a significant breakthrough for the global fragrance industry, Spanish multinational Eurofragance has unveiled Olivante®, an innovative captive ingredient created by upcycling discarded olive pulp into a premium fragrance raw material. The revolutionary ingredient was launched at the Beautyworld Middle East trade show in Dubai, marking the company's fourth proprietary perfumery ingredient.

From Olive Waste to Luxury Fragrance

Eurofragance developed Olivante® through a unique partnership with olive oil industry collaborators, transforming olive residues into valuable fragrance components. The 100% natural process involves upcycling olive pulp left after oil extraction, addressing sustainability concerns while creating premium scent experiences.

Research and Development Manager Felipe San Juan and Technical Perfumer Magdalena Rey led the two-year development process, meticulously exploring Spanish countryside to identify olive varieties with ideal concentrations of volatiles and precursors. The team collaborated closely with waste management engineers from a specific Spanish region to perfect the raw material through an eco-friendly, multi-step purification process.

San Juan emphasized that terroir and climate play crucial roles in the ingredient's quality, as Olivante® cannot be produced from random olive pulp. The company's scientific expertise enabled isolation of essential odorant molecules, with the ingredient currently under patent review.

Global Appeal with Indian Market Potential

Olivante® offers phenolic, animalic notes reminiscent of castoreum, making it particularly suitable for mukhallat-type creations popular in Middle Eastern perfumery. However, the ingredient's versatility extends well beyond regional preferences.

Mayur Kapse, General Manager India at Eurofragance, highlighted the ingredient's significance for Indian consumers: "The natural animalic character of Olivante® is ideal for Indian consumers who love powerful profiles like shamama. In compositions with typical Indian ingredients, it works wonders too - jasmine sambac becomes more fruity and pink lotus notes develop leathery undertones."

Belén Garcia, Master Perfumer at Eurofragance, noted the growing global appreciation for Middle Eastern perfumery elements: "Powerful notes of leather and oud have gained consumer acceptance well beyond the Gulf Region. Olivante® is multi-faceted and offers these olfactive aspects that are now appreciated across geographies."

Beyond Fine Fragrance: Broader Applications

Eurofragance perfumers report that Olivante® enhances various fragrance compositions significantly. Fruity notes become richer, gourmand notes more delightful, and certain white floral notes more intense. Despite its olive origins, the ingredient doesn't carry an oily smell, making it versatile across multiple applications.

Sine Guçetil, Global Marketing Director at Eurofragance, revealed broader market potential: "Olivante® stands out for offering perfume richness in a fresher, less heavy manner. Our initial trials formulating personal care and home fragrancing products show promising results, indicating strong potential for broader market adoption."

The ingredient's Mediterranean heritage connects to its name, with Olivante® referencing the Levant - the olive tree's birthplace, from where Phoenicians spread it westward across the Mediterranean to Spain. Today, Eurofragance presents this Spanish heritage ingredient with global consumer appeal, combining sustainability with luxury in the evolving fragrance landscape.
