Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari held a meeting at Nabanna on Tuesday to prepare for International Yoga Day on June 21, which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting was also attended by Union ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Prataprao Jadhav.
PM Modi's Two-Day Visit
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive on June 20 for a two-day visit and is expected to lead a massive Yoga Day celebration on Red Road the following day. The state government aims to transform the event into a mass movement, targeting a Guinness World Record for maximum participation.
Registration and Special Programmes
A special registration drive will commence on June 14, allowing citizens to participate by giving a missed call to a toll-free number. Additionally, special programmes will be organized at several heritage and tourist spots on June 15. The state government has also planned a large-scale yoga camp along the Hooghly ghats to ensure widespread public participation.
Security and Crowd Management
Tuesday's meeting addressed security protocols, smooth transit, traffic control, emergency services, and crowd management. A public relations campaign has been launched to engage youth and students in the event.
School and District-Level Initiatives
School programmes are already underway from June 7 to 21. District-level initiatives such as ‘Yoga in Schools', ‘Yoga for Mental Health', ‘Yoga for Tribal Bengal', and special camps for senior citizens and tea workers have been rolled out. A ‘Run for Yoga' will be held in every district on June 19.
First-Time National Event in West Bengal
This is the first time West Bengal is hosting the national Yoga Day event. The theme for this year is 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing'. The state government is leaving no stone unturned to make the event a grand success.
