The Department of Physical Education at Khalsa College for Women (KCW) in Ludhiana has launched a significant initiative aimed at empowering women. The college has commenced a one-week training program and workshop dedicated to self-defence, personal safety, and physical fitness.
Empowering Through Training: Workshop Objectives
The primary goal of this workshop is to build self-discipline, physical fitness, and crucial self-protection skills. The program is designed not just for students but also includes teachers and non-teaching staff, fostering a safer and more confident campus community. On its inaugural day, the session saw an encouraging turnout of around 35 participants from across the college's community.
Leadership and Vision Behind the Initiative
The workshop is being conducted under the direct guidance of the college principal, Dr. Kamaljit Grewal. She emphasized the critical importance of such training in today's world. Dr. Grewal stated that the self-defence workshop is a vital step towards building self-confidence and awareness about personal safety. She highlighted its role in helping individuals remain calm and alert when facing challenging situations.
"I appreciate the efforts of the physical education department and trainers for such initiatives," Dr. Grewal added, commending the team for their proactive approach.
Key Focus Areas: Defence, Weight, and Core Strength
Leading the practical training is martial arts coach Narinder Kumar. He outlined the three core pillars of the workshop:
- Self-defence techniques for personal safety.
- Weight management strategies for overall health.
- Core strength training to improve physical stability and fitness.
Kumar stressed the contemporary need for these skills, noting, "The current situation in the world demands that every woman should have these skills that can be helpful for them in life."
An Inclusive Opportunity for All Women
In a commendable move to promote widespread access to essential life skills, the college authorities have made this week-long program completely free of charge. It is open to any woman interested in learning about self-defence, self-discipline, and core strength. Notably, there is no age limit for participation, and women from any part of Ludhiana city are welcome to join the one-hour daily sessions being held at the college campus.
