Surat Food Safety Crackdown: Six Samples Fail Quality Tests in Municipal Laboratory Analysis

The Surat Municipal Corporation's Public Health Laboratory has reported alarming findings from its recent citywide food inspection drive. Six food samples, comprising one wheat flour sample and five milk samples, have failed quality tests, highlighting significant violations of prescribed safety standards.

Intensified Food Safety Inspections Across the City

The health department has dramatically increased scrutiny of food establishments over recent months. This heightened vigilance comes in direct response to major rackets involving adulterated food products that were previously uncovered and dismantled by authorities. Samples collected during rigorous inspections at various units engaged in the sale, storage, and distribution of food items over the past 30 days were systematically sent for comprehensive laboratory analysis.

Wheat Flour Sample Shows Excessive Alcoholic Acidity

The single wheat flour sample that was declared substandard was collected from Shri Shiv Shakti Foods, located at Jay Jalaram Industries in the Pandesara area of Surat. Detailed laboratory analysis revealed that the sample contained alcoholic acidity levels that significantly exceeded the legally prescribed standards for food safety and quality.

Multiple Milk Samples Fail Fat and Solid-Not-Fat Requirements

The laboratory tests identified serious deficiencies in five different milk samples collected from various dairy establishments across Surat. Three cow milk samples were declared substandard due to critical violations:

  • Dwarkadhis Dairy at Harinagar-3 in Udhna
  • New Kamal Dairy at Raza Complex in Sagrampura
  • Maa Chamunda Dairy at Deepmala Apartment on LH Road

All three samples showed milk fat and Solid-Not-Fat (SNF) levels that fell substantially below the minimum requirements established by food safety regulations.

Buffalo Milk Samples Also Found Non-Compliant

In a parallel finding, two buffalo milk samples also failed to meet the mandated quality parameters. These samples were collected from:

  1. Maa Chamunda Dairy (the same establishment that failed cow milk tests)
  2. Shri Krishna Patel Dairy located on AK Road

Both buffalo milk samples were similarly declared substandard, indicating widespread quality control issues in the local dairy supply chain.

Municipal Corporation's Ongoing Food Safety Initiative

The Surat Municipal Corporation has emphasized that these findings are part of a sustained effort to ensure food safety for all residents. The Public Health Laboratory continues to conduct regular and surprise inspections across the city's food distribution network. Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against establishments found violating food safety standards, including potential fines, license suspensions, and legal proceedings.

The recent test results underscore the critical importance of continuous monitoring and enforcement in maintaining food quality standards. Consumers are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspected food adulteration to municipal health authorities immediately.
