Salumber District Sees No New Fatalities as Health Investigation Intensifies
Health authorities in Salumber district, Rajasthan, have confirmed that no new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours. This development comes amid an ongoing investigation into the cause behind seven child fatalities recorded since April 1. While viral encephalitis is strongly suspected, officials have not yet confirmed this diagnosis, leaving the source of infection under active scrutiny.
Details of the Seven Child Deaths
Of the seven tragic deaths, five occurred either at home or while the children were being transported to medical facilities. One death followed a voluntary discharge by the family, and another took place at RNT Medical College. The Lasadiya block, particularly the Ghata sector and Lalpura village, has been identified as the worst-affected area, drawing focused attention from health teams.
Extensive Survey and Response Efforts
In a proactive response, sixteen specialized teams conducted thorough surveys of 352 houses in the region. During these inspections, four suspected cases of encephalitis were identified. Two of these individuals were promptly referred to hospitals for further evaluation and treatment, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
Authorities are also examining the possibility of mosquito-borne transmission, given the nature of the suspected illness. To combat this potential vector, anti-larval measures were implemented at 122 high-risk sites, and fogging operations were carried out in 29 areas to reduce mosquito populations. Additionally, three cases of malaria were detected and successfully treated during these efforts.
District-Wide Health Surveillance
Across the entire Salumber district, a massive mobilization of 377 health teams has been deployed. These teams have surveyed an impressive 5,590 houses, identifying 189 persons exhibiting symptoms that could be related to the outbreak. Of these, 22 individuals were referred to medical facilities for specialized care, while 154 received immediate treatment on the spot, demonstrating a robust and rapid public health response.
