In a significant tribute to the visionary founder of a key medical institution, the matriarch of the Mysuru royal family unveiled a grand portrait of Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar at the KR Hospital premises on Tuesday.
A Grand Tribute to a Visionary Ruler
Pramoda Devi Wadiyar performed the unveiling ceremony of the majestic portrait, which measures an impressive 8 feet by 6 feet. The portrait, elegantly illuminated with modern LED lighting, now stands as a permanent homage to the erstwhile ruler's foundational role in establishing public healthcare services in the Mysuru region. The event highlighted the deep historical roots connecting the Wadiyar dynasty with the institution's legacy.
Royal Endorsement and a Call for Action
Speaking at the event, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar expressed her honour in being part of the ceremony and thanked key medical officials, including Dr KR Dakshayani, Dean of Mysore Medical College, and Dr HP Shobha, Medical Superintendent of KR Hospital. She praised the hospital's critical role in delivering quality medical care to economically weaker sections from Mysuru and surrounding districts.
However, she also addressed existing challenges. Acknowledging that occasional complaints are heard, she urged the hospital administration to implement corrective measures to enhance patient care and overall services. She made a specific appeal to elected representatives present, including MLC Dr D Thimmaiah and MLA K Harish Gowda, to pay due attention to these concerns, with a focus on filling all vacant staff positions to improve operational efficiency.
Continuing the Legacy of Care
The event seamlessly blended commemoration with ongoing public health service. Following the portrait unveiling, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar administered polio drops to newborn babies at the Cheluvamba Hospital children's ward, symbolising a continuation of the royal family's patronage of healthcare. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Dr Nagaraj and Dr Pradeep, alongside Dr Dakshayani.
This act served as a powerful reminder of the enduring bond between the Mysuru royal family and the institutions they helped establish, reinforcing their commitment to the community's welfare that was championed by Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar over a century ago.
