In a major crackdown aimed at improving public healthcare services, the District Magistrate of Patna, Thiyagarajan S M, ordered a series of surprise inspections across multiple medical facilities on Monday. The move led to immediate disciplinary action against staff found absent from their duties.
Widespread Inspections Across Health Centres
Acting on the direct directive of the DM, officials conducted unannounced checks at a total of 31 health facilities in one day. The inspected units included a mix of primary, community, and larger hospitals. Specifically, the raids covered 23 primary and community health centres, four sub-divisional hospitals, three referral hospitals, and one sadar hospital.
Strict Action Against Absenteeism
Following the inspections, District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M took a stern stance against absenteeism. He issued orders for the withholding of salaries of all medical officers and health personnel who were found absent from their posts during the surprise checks. The DM stated that those identified as absent must now provide formal explanations for their absence. This measure is intended to enforce accountability and ensure the presence of staff at government healthcare facilities.
Directive for Improved Healthcare Standards
Beyond the immediate punitive action, the DM has instructed the civil surgeon to ensure strict compliance with government standards across all health centres.
