Residents across several sectors in Noida are raising alarm over a severe and persistent drainage crisis, with sewage water overflowing onto roads and even flowing back into homes, creating unhygienic and hazardous living conditions. The situation has become particularly dire in Sectors 40, 99, and 100, prompting urgent calls for intervention from the city's administrative body.
Sector 40 Basements Inundated with Sewage
In Sector 40, the problem stems from the Dadri drain, where residents report a dangerous backflow of dirty water into their residential area. This has led to basements of multiple homes being flooded with sewage. Mohinder Singh, the General Secretary of the Sector 40 Residents' Welfare Association (RWA), highlighted that a blockage in Sector 49, which was intended for cleaning, has ironically worsened the situation for their sector.
"Dirty water from the Dadri drain is flowing back into our sector, leading to unfortunate conditions of water backflow in the basements of homes," Singh stated. The frustration is palpable among residents like AK Kundra, who operates his workspace from his basement. Kundra revealed the exhausting daily routine necessitated by the crisis: "Drain water entered my basement. We have to pump out this drain water three times a day."
Year-Long Delays and Bureaucratic Hurdles
The residents' grievances extend beyond the immediate waterlogging. They point to systemic delays and bureaucratic inefficiencies that prevent timely solutions. A major point of contention is a long-standing blockage at Bhangel, which they claim has remained unaddressed for nearly a year despite repeated complaints to the Noida Authority.
Singh criticized the cumbersome administrative processes, noting, "The tender process for addressing such issues is overly complicated and time-consuming, leading to delays in resolving pressing sanitation problems." The issue has escalated to the point where residents prepared a signed petition to be handed over to the Chief Minister, underscoring the severity of the public health nuisance.
The situation has become an unbearable nuisance affecting the health of people, Singh emphasized, questioning why drain cleaning could not be conducted without completely blocking the system and exacerbating problems elsewhere.
Overflowing Roads in Sectors 99 and 100
The drainage nightmare is not confined to Sector 40. Residents of Sectors 99 and 100 are facing a parallel crisis, with drain water consistently overflowing onto the roads, rendering them unusable and creating a foul environment. They have collectively described the state of their area as "deplorable."
The common demand from all affected sectors is for the Noida Authority's public health department to prioritize this sanitation emergency. There is a strong consensus on the need for immediate and strategic action to prevent a further decline in public health and safety standards.
"The urgency of the situation emphasises a need for timely action and strategic planning to prevent further deterioration of public health and safety," Singh asserted, voicing the collective anxiety of the communities. As of now, the residents continue to wait for concrete action from the Noida Authority to permanently resolve these chronic drainage failures.
