Newborn Found Dead in MP Hospital Toilet, Police Probe Abandonment
Newborn's body found in Madhya Pradesh hospital toilet

The body of a newborn baby girl was discovered inside a toilet at the Civil Hospital in Parasia town, located in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district. The grim find has triggered a police investigation, with authorities exploring the possibility that a pregnant woman delivered the child during outpatient hours and attempted to dispose of the evidence.

How the Tragic Discovery Unfolded

The incident came to light on Monday, December 18, 2025. A sanitation worker, while cleaning the women's toilet, found it clogged. Upon closer inspection by hospital staff, the body of the newborn was found lodged inside. The police were informed immediately.

Retrieving the infant's body proved to be a challenging task. It took nearly eight hours of concerted effort involving hospital staff, municipal workers, and police personnel to finally extract the body late in the evening. Parasia Block Medical Officer, Dr. Sudha Bakshi, confirmed the timeline, stating the body was noticed around noon and extracted later in the police's presence.

Police Launch Investigation and Scan CCTV Footage

Following the retrieval, the body was sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The police have registered a case against unknown persons based on a complaint from the hospital authorities.

A key part of the probe involves scanning footage from all 26 CCTV cameras installed across the hospital premises. While there was no camera inside or directly outside the specific toilet, investigators are meticulously examining recordings from corridors, galleries, and entry and exit points. Their goal is to trace the movements of any suspicious individuals who may have been involved.

"We are trying to establish the identity of the woman and reconstruct the sequence of events," stated a senior police officer overseeing the investigation.

Tracking Pregnant Women and Official Statements

Hospital records have become crucial evidence. Officials revealed that at least 15 pregnant women visited the hospital for antenatal check-ups on Monday. As part of the investigation, 14 of these women have been successfully traced and their statements verified. The search for the remaining one is likely part of the active probe.

Dr. Sudha Bakshi provided a chilling hypothesis that is guiding the investigation. She stated, "The possibility cannot be ruled out that a pregnant woman who came to the hospital during OPD hours delivered the baby in the toilet and attempted to dispose of the newborn to hide evidence." This statement underscores the suspected circumstances that led to this tragic event.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities in Chhindwara work to uncover the full truth behind the newborn's death and bring those responsible to justice.
