MLA Urges State to Distribute Artificial Limbs in All Districts, 5 Lakh in Need
MLA Calls for State-Wide Artificial Limb Distribution Programme

In a significant push to bolster healthcare for persons with disabilities, a Karnataka legislator has called for a comprehensive state-wide programme for the distribution of artificial limbs. The appeal highlights a critical gap in support for nearly half a million residents of the state living without limbs.

MLA's Call for Systemic Change

Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa has urgently requested the state government to implement a structured initiative ensuring artificial limb distribution in every district. Speaking at a distribution programme in Mysuru, he stressed the pressing need to strengthen healthcare support for the disabled community.

The event was held at the Nataraja Kalyana Mandira and was a collaborative effort by several organisations:

  • Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited
  • Ashray Seva Sansthan
  • Lions International District-317 G
  • Jain Milan Charitable Trust

During his address, Srivatsa revealed the staggering scale of the issue, stating that nearly 500,000 people in Karnataka are living without limbs. To address this, he proposed a concrete annual target: the government should provide artificial limbs to at least 1,000 beneficiaries in each district every year.

Funding and Dignity for Beneficiaries

The MLA also pointed out a financial hurdle, stating that the existing MLA grants are insufficient to meet the substantial medical needs of constituents. He appealed for special grants to be sanctioned for legislators specifically for such vital healthcare initiatives.

The Mysuru programme served as a powerful example of the impact such support can have. Modular artificial limbs worth approximately Rs 50 lakh were distributed to 88 persons, including five women. For many beneficiaries who had endured years of hardship, the support was described as life-changing, essential for restoring both dignity and livelihood.

Spiritual Leader Emphasises Service

Adding a profound dimension to the event, Swastishri Bhuvanakeerthi Bhattarka Swami of Kanakagiri Jain Math addressed the gathering. He emphasised that service to humanity is the highest form of religion and advised beneficiaries to make responsible and meaningful use of the support extended to them.

The event was also attended by JD(S) MLC CN Manjegowda. The collective effort underscored a shared commitment to transforming lives through direct, actionable healthcare support, setting a precedent for wider state-led action.
