A 42-year-old man in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district allegedly severed part of his genitalia with an axe on Saturday morning, saying he wanted to end his 'sexual desire' and devote himself to prayers and national service, officials reported on Sunday.
Incident Details
The incident occurred in the Maharajpur police station area, approximately 20 kilometers from the district headquarters. According to family members, Rammilan Yadav took the extreme step near a well close to his field. After sustaining serious injuries, he managed to call his cousin and seek help.
Yadav was initially taken to the primary health centre in Maharajpur, where doctors referred him to the district hospital due to the severity of his condition, relatives said.
Video Statement
A video circulating on social media purportedly shows Yadav speaking to a journalist. In the video, he states that he ran a Ram Leela troupe and was troubled by feelings of lust and anger. 'I thought I should end my sexual desire. I took this step for that reason. I cut my genitalia with an axe. My aim now is to devote myself to prayers, serve the nation and work for the welfare of the country,' Yadav said.
His cousin revealed that Yadav lives with his wife, a son, and two daughters, one of whom is scheduled to get married on June 25. The cousin added that Yadav's wife has been suffering from paralysis for a long time, and the family has been facing financial difficulties.
Medical Condition
District hospital official Dr. Rajesh Mishra told PTI, 'The man was brought to the emergency ward in a serious condition after reportedly injuring himself with an axe. The patient has suffered a partial severing of the genital organ. He is undergoing treatment.'
Police Response
Maharajpur police station house officer (SHO) D K Singh said no complaint has been received in connection with the incident. He added that action will be taken based on facts that emerge after a written complaint is received.
This incident highlights the extreme measures some individuals take in response to emotional and psychological distress. Authorities are investigating the matter, and the victim continues to receive medical care.
