Ludhiana Food Safety Team Conducts Extensive Sampling Drive to Ensure Hygienic Food

In a significant move to safeguard public health, the Ludhiana food safety team has launched an extensive sampling drive across multiple locations in and around the city. This initiative aims to ensure the availability of safe and hygienic food for all residents, addressing growing concerns over food adulteration and quality standards.

Comprehensive Sample Collection Across Key Areas

District Health Officer Dr. Sandeep Singh provided detailed insights into the drive, revealing that the team collected five food samples from prominent areas including BRS Nagar, Sunet, and Pakhowal Road. "The samples comprised commonly consumed items such as shakkar, milk, paneer, mozzarella cheese, and ice cream," Singh stated. "These products are frequently monitored due to their high consumption rates and susceptibility to adulteration, making them critical targets for our surveillance efforts."

In an additional inspection carried out in Machiwara Sahib and along Kohara Road, the team gathered six more samples. This batch included:

  • Paneer

  • Jaggery
  • Mustard oil

"These items were selected as part of our routine surveillance and targeted checks to verify compliance with prescribed safety standards," Singh added, emphasizing the strategic approach behind the sample selection.

Laboratory Analysis and Regulatory Framework

All 11 collected samples have been meticulously sealed and dispatched to an accredited laboratory for comprehensive analysis. The results will determine the next course of action, with strict adherence to legal provisions under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Highlighting the regulatory framework, Dr. Singh reiterated that all actions are being undertaken in accordance with the guidelines of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The FSSAI mandates strict adherence to hygiene, quality standards, and labeling norms for all food business operators. Any deviations, including adulteration, misbranding, or substandard quality, will invite stringent penalties and legal action.

"Further action in the present case will be taken based on the laboratory reports as per established legal provisions," Singh affirmed, underscoring the department's commitment to evidence-based enforcement.

Appeal to Stakeholders and Public Vigilance

Dr. Singh also issued a strong appeal to food business operators, urging them to:

  1. Maintain proper sanitation and hygiene in their premises
  2. Ensure the use of only permitted ingredients
  3. Comply with all licensing and registration requirements as prescribed by FSSAI

Furthermore, consumers have been encouraged to remain vigilant. "Check for proper labeling on food products and report any suspected cases of food adulteration to the authorities immediately," he appealed, highlighting the crucial role of public participation in ensuring food safety.

The Ludhiana food safety department has asserted its unwavering commitment to protecting public health through regular inspections and enforcement drives. This latest sampling drive is part of a broader strategy to deter malpractices and promote a culture of compliance among food businesses, ultimately aiming to build a safer food ecosystem for the community.
