In a significant push to curb road accidents, enforcement authorities in Kanpur Nagar district have launched a comprehensive awareness campaign as part of the statewide Road Safety Month. The month-long initiative, observed as a Zero Fatality Month from January 1 to January 31, saw its latest program organized in the Bhitargaon block on Wednesday.
Key Officials and Public Representatives Join Forces
The road safety awareness programme witnessed strong participation from local administration and elected representatives. Attendees included the Block Development Officer, Assistant Development Officer, members of the district panchayat, the secretary, as well as village heads and numerous gram panchayat members. This collective presence underscored a unified community approach to tackling the menace of road accidents.
Core Safety Rules and Government Schemes Explained
Officials provided detailed insights into critical traffic regulations and safety measures. They stressed that wearing helmets is mandatory for both riders and pillion riders on two-wheelers. For all other vehicles, the compulsory use of seat belts for drivers and passengers was reiterated. The gathering was also cautioned against dangerous practices like using mobile phones while driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, overspeeding, and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Furthermore, the program served as a platform to inform citizens about various beneficial schemes launched by the Uttar Pradesh government. These included the cashless treatment facility, the Hit and Run scheme, and the Solatium scheme. A key highlight was the detailed explanation of the Raahveer scheme, which incentivizes bystanders to help accident victims. Under this scheme, any person who takes an accident victim to a hospital during the golden hour will be rewarded with Rs 25,000 along with a certificate of appreciation from the government.

The event culminated in a powerful symbolic gesture aimed at fostering personal responsibility. All participants, including officials and community leaders, were administered a solemn oath. They pledged to strictly follow road safety rules in their daily lives and contribute actively towards the larger goal of reducing road accidents and achieving zero fatalities.
