Kanpur: Expired Food Items Worth ₹2.32 Lakh Destroyed

The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) on Friday destroyed nearly 8,600 litres of expired food items worth approximately ₹2.32 lakh at the municipal corporation's dumping ground in Bhauti. This action is part of the ongoing drive against adulterated and substandard food products in Kanpur.

Inspection and Seizure

Assistant food commissioner Sanjay Pratap Singh stated that an FSDA team conducted an inspection at Vishal Bharat Industries in Jajmau on June 15. The establishment is operated by food business operator Tauqir Kamal Ansari. During the inspection, officials discovered a large quantity of expired syrup, crush, sherbet, and sauce stored at the premises. The persons present at the unit fled the spot during the inspection, prompting the Food Safety Department to immediately seal the manufacturing unit.

Sample Collection and Seizure

On June 17, the department collected two samples of pickles in the presence of the representative of the food business operator and seized approximately 198 kilograms of pickles. Additionally, three samples of sauce were collected for laboratory testing.
