A concerning diarrhea outbreak has struck Srikakulam town in Visakhapatnam, affecting more than 50 people since it began on Monday. As of Tuesday, health officials confirmed 52 reported cases, with nearly 40 patients currently undergoing treatment at various medical facilities across the region. Tragically, one individual succumbed to the illness on Tuesday, heightening concerns about the severity of the situation.

Authorities strongly suspect that water contamination is the primary cause of this sudden outbreak. Preliminary investigations indicate that drainage may have infiltrated the local water supply, leading to widespread illness. In response, the municipal corporation has temporarily suspended the regular water supply to prevent further exposure. Water samples have been collected from affected areas and dispatched to laboratories for comprehensive testing to pinpoint the exact source of contamination.

District collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar has assured residents that the outbreak is currently under control, thanks to a coordinated multi-departmental effort. Medical, sanitation, engineering, and planning teams are working together to manage the crisis. During these rounds, seven new cases were identified, although officials noted that the overall intensity of the outbreak showed a decrease on Tuesday.
