The Greater Chennai Corporation has launched a major recruitment initiative to bolster the city's public health infrastructure. The civic body announced a drive to fill 311 contractual positions under the Chennai City Urban Health Mission (CCUHM). This move is aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery across Chennai by bringing in a wide spectrum of medical, technical, and administrative professionals.

Vacancy Details and Post Distribution

The recruitment drive encompasses a diverse range of roles critical for a functioning healthcare system. The 311 vacancies are spread across senior, technical, and support categories. Key positions include Medical Officers and Public Health Specialists, who will provide clinical leadership. The nursing cadre will see appointments for Staff Nurses and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs).

Technical posts open for application are Lab Technicians, X-Ray Technicians, and Pharmacists. In a significant focus on holistic care, the corporation is also recruiting specialized professionals like Psychologists, Psychiatric Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, and Special Educators. Administrative support will be enhanced through roles such as Data Entry Operators and Administrative Assistants.

Eligibility Criteria and Application Process

Educational and professional qualifications are specific to each post. For instance, Medical Officer roles require an MBBS degree and relevant medical council registration. Nursing staff must possess a diploma or B.Sc in Nursing with registration from the Tamil Nadu Nurses & Midwives Council. Technical roles demand relevant diplomas or degrees with mandatory council registration where applicable.

For administrative posts like Data Entry Operator, a graduation degree with computer proficiency is essential. Age limits follow standard government norms, with the minimum age set at 18 years and upper age relaxations applicable for candidates from reserved categories as per rules.

The application process is strictly offline. Interested candidates must download the official form from the Greater Chennai Corporation website. They need to submit the completed form along with self-attested copies of all necessary documents. These include educational certificates, professional qualification proofs, council registration, category certificate (if applicable), experience letters, and proof of residency. A recent passport-size photograph must be attached. The deadline for receipt of applications is 5 PM on January 5, 2026. Separate applications are mandatory for those applying to multiple posts.

Selection Procedure and Key Instructions

The selection will be a merit-based process conducted in defined stages. Initially, candidates will be shortlisted based on their qualifications and experience. Those shortlisted will then be called for an interview and document verification round, where their skills and suitability for the role will be assessed. The final step involves the issuance of a contractual appointment by the Greater Chennai Corporation.

Authorities have advised applicants to carefully review all eligibility conditions and ensure their documentation is complete to avoid rejection. It is also noted that no travel or daily allowance will be provided to candidates attending the interview. This recruitment drive represents a substantial investment in Chennai's public health capacity, aiming to make quality healthcare services more accessible to its residents.
