Chandigarh marked Malaria Day with a series of awareness campaigns aimed at educating the public about the prevention and control of malaria. Various health departments, non-governmental organizations, and community groups organized events across the city to spread information on how to combat this vector-borne disease.
Health Camps and Educational Programs
Several health camps were set up in different parts of Chandigarh, offering free check-ups and diagnostic services for malaria. Medical professionals conducted tests and provided treatment to those showing symptoms. Educational programs were also held in schools and community centers, where experts explained the importance of early detection and proper medication.
Posters and pamphlets were distributed in multiple languages to reach a wider audience. These materials highlighted the common symptoms of malaria, such as fever, chills, and headache, and emphasized the need for prompt medical attention.
Community Involvement and Preventive Measures
Community volunteers played a key role in the awareness drives, going door-to-door to educate residents about preventive measures. They advised people to use mosquito nets, repellents, and to eliminate stagnant water where mosquitoes breed. The campaigns also focused on the importance of keeping the environment clean and dry.
Local authorities urged residents to cooperate with health workers and report any suspected cases of malaria. They also assured that adequate medical supplies and facilities are available at government health centers.
Focus on Vulnerable Groups
Special attention was given to vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and children under five, who are at higher risk of severe malaria. Health workers provided them with preventive medicines and mosquito nets. Awareness sessions were conducted in anganwadis and maternity clinics to ensure these groups receive proper care.
The day’s events concluded with a pledge ceremony where participants vowed to keep their surroundings clean and to support malaria eradication efforts.
