Chandigarh TB Screening Camp Uses AI X-Ray, Tests 55 for Early Detection
AI-Powered TB Screening Camp Held in Chandigarh's Golf Range

In a significant push towards tuberculosis elimination, a dedicated health screening camp was successfully conducted at the Golf Range in Chandigarh this Monday. The camp, a part of the national TB Mukt Bharat initiative, was formally inaugurated by Dr Suman Singh, Director Health Services, Chandigarh Administration, and Managing Director of the National Health Mission.

Advanced Technology for On-the-Spot Diagnosis

The camp specifically targeted the staff and caddies working at the Golf Range, bringing critical diagnostic services directly to their workplace. For swift and accurate tuberculosis screening, organisers deployed cutting-edge technology. This included a portable, hand-held AI-enabled X-ray machine for immediate chest imaging, complemented by sophisticated sputum testing using the CBNAAT (Cartridge-Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test) system.

During the day-long event, healthcare professionals performed a total of 55 chest X-rays on the spot. Furthermore, eight NAAT (CBNAAT) tests were conducted to confirm potential TB cases with high precision, facilitating a path for timely treatment.

Dual Focus: Combating TB and Non-Communicable Diseases

Recognising the interconnected nature of public health, the camp's scope extended beyond infectious diseases. In a holistic approach, all participants were also screened for major non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like hypertension and diabetes. This dual focus underscores the administration's strategy to tackle both TB and the growing burden of lifestyle diseases through early detection and awareness.

Administration Reiterates Commitment to Preventive Healthcare

Addressing the gathering, Dr Suman Singh emphasised the vital role of such regular health screening camps in building a healthier community. She reiterated the Chandigarh Administration's steadfast commitment to strengthening preventive healthcare services. Dr. Singh stated that initiatives like these are crucial for achieving national TB elimination targets while simultaneously addressing the rise of NCDs through early diagnosis.

The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from the beneficiaries, who expressed appreciation for the convenience of accessing essential healthcare services at their place of work. This grassroots initiative marks a proactive step in the wider mission to make India free from tuberculosis.
