Man dies by suicide in Palghar, wife and nephew hurt

A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday in Palghar district, where a 35-year-old man, burdened by debt and depression, died by suicide. The event also left two of his family members with burn injuries as they attempted to rescue him.

Midnight Tragedy in Virar Home

The police stated that the incident occurred at 12.40 am on Sunday at a residence in Phulpada, located within the Virar area. The deceased has been identified as Akilesh Vishwakarma, who was 35 years old and operated a welding shop in the locality.

Financial Strain and Desperate Act

According to Senior Inspector LM Ture of Virar police station, preliminary information suggests Vishwakarma had been struggling with depression triggered by severe financial issues and mounting debts. Overwhelmed by his circumstances, he allegedly doused himself with an inflammable substance and set himself on fire inside his house.

Upon seeing him ablaze, his wife and nephew immediately rushed to his aid in a desperate attempt to save his life. In the process, both sustained burn injuries. The official confirmed that while the wife suffered minor burns, the nephew sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

Aftermath and Official Response

After being alerted, fire brigade personnel quickly reached the spot and extinguished the flames. The body of Akilesh Vishwakarma was sent to a government hospital for a postmortem examination. The police have registered a case of accidental death as they continue their investigation into this heartbreaking event.
