RIMS Ranchi Unveils 2026 Roadmap: New ICU, Cancer Machines & 1136 CCTV Cameras
RIMS Ranchi 2026 Plan: New ICU, Cancer Care, More Seats

In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure in Jharkhand, the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi has laid out a comprehensive roadmap for expansion and modernization, targeting completion by 2026. The ambitious plan focuses on strengthening critical care, academic capacity, and overall patient services at the premier state institute.

Major Infrastructure and Critical Care Upgrades

The cornerstone of the plan is the construction of new ICU buildings at the RIMS trauma centre. This expansion is specifically designed to enhance critical care capacity and improve emergency response for severely injured and critically ill patients. Officials state that the move will directly support advanced treatment protocols and save more lives.

Beyond critical care, the institute will also install state-of-the-art linear accelerator machines for advanced cancer treatment and radiotherapy, bringing cutting-edge oncology services to the region. To ensure campus safety and utility, the roadmap includes upgrading essential infrastructure like boundary walls, comprehensive firefighting systems, and medical gas pipelines across the entire campus.

Financial Sustainability and Staff Welfare

Addressing a common challenge in public healthcare, RIMS Director Dr. Raj Kumar revealed the introduction of a novel hospital revolving fund for medicines and surgical items. "A pre-determined fund will be used to procure medicines, and the revenue generated from their sale will be reinvested into the same fund," explained Dr. Kumar. This system aims to guarantee a continuous, affordable supply of medicines for patients while maintaining adequate hospital stocks.

On the human resources front, the institute has already created 103 new posts for doctors, nursing staff, and paramedical personnel, particularly for the Regional Eye Institute. Service-related benefits have been extended to the medical faculty and staff, and recruitment processes across various departments are being expedited to fill vacancies swiftly.

Boosting Academic Capacity and Security

Recognizing the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals, RIMS will increase the number of seats in MBBS, postgraduate, nursing, and super-speciality courses. This academic expansion is a vital part of the institute's long-term vision to contribute more trained professionals to the healthcare ecosystem.

Furthermore, campus security has received a massive upgrade with the installation of a robust surveillance network comprising a total of 1,136 CCTV cameras. This measure ensures a safer environment for patients, visitors, and staff alike.

The multi-pronged 2026 roadmap for RIMS Ranchi signifies a transformative phase, aiming to position the institute as a centre of excellence in patient care, medical education, and research for the region.
