Newborn with Protruding Intestines Dies in Hubballi Despite Emergency Transfer
Newborn with Congenital Abnormalities Dies in Hubballi

A tragic incident unfolded in Hubballi this week as a newborn baby boy, battling severe congenital complications, succumbed to his ailments. The infant, who was born with his intestines protruding and an associated kidney-related issue, passed away late on Monday night despite being rushed to a specialised hospital under a high-priority zero-traffic arrangement.

Emergency Transfer from Koppal to Hubballi

The child's parents, Mallappa and Vijayalakshmi, are residents of Guttur village in Kukanur taluk. Their newborn son was first brought to a hospital in Kukanur on the night of December 27. During delivery, it was discovered that the baby had a condition where his intestines were protruding, a medical emergency requiring immediate and specialised surgical care. Recognising the critical need, doctors arranged for his transfer.

On Sunday, in a race against time, the infant was transported under a carefully managed zero-traffic corridor from the Mother and Child Hospital in Koppal to the better-equipped KMC-RI Hospital in Hubballi. This arrangement was made to ensure the fastest possible journey for the fragile patient.

Surgical Intervention and ICU Care

Upon arrival at KMC-RI Hospital, the medical team led by Dr. Ishwar Hasabi, the superintendent of the hospital, immediately took charge. The baby underwent a necessary operation to address the life-threatening congenital abnormalities.

Dr. Hasabi confirmed to the Times of India that the child had multiple congenital defects. Following the surgery, the newborn was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for critical post-operative monitoring and support. The medical team provided extensive care, but the infant's condition remained grave.

A Heartbreaking Outcome

Despite the swift emergency response and the surgical efforts, the newborn could not be saved. The baby boy died late on Monday night, marking a devastating loss for his parents from Guttur village. The case highlights the challenges and heartbreaks associated with severe congenital abnormalities, even when advanced medical intervention is swiftly deployed.

This incident underscores the critical importance of neonatal emergency care networks and the heroic efforts of medical teams who work tirelessly to save the most vulnerable patients. The community mourns the loss of the young life.
