According to sources, the refrigerator explosion occurred the moment 32-year-old Neetu opened the appliance's door. A loud blast erupted from the compressor, instantly causing a fire. Flames quickly engulfed Neetu, who was standing closest to the fridge.
Her husband, Neeraj, who was nearby, did not hesitate. Hearing the blast and seeing his wife in danger, he rushed to save her. In his brave attempt to pull her to safety, Neeraj himself got caught in the flames, sustaining significant burns.

The couple's screams of pain and distress alerted their neighbours. Reacting immediately, the neighbours rushed into the house. They provided first aid and then quickly transported the injured pair to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Given the severity of their burn injuries, the couple required advanced medical care. After initial treatment, they were referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) in Chandigarh for further specialised treatment and management of their traumatic wounds.
