A tragic incident unfolded at Jaipur's premier government hospital on Thursday morning when a 35-year-old man, who had recently undergone a kidney transplant, died after jumping from the sixth floor of the building. The event has sent shockwaves through the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital premises and raised serious questions about patient mental health support.
Details of the Tragic Fall
Hansram Jat, a resident of Tonk, leaped from a window on the sixth floor of the Super Speciality Block. He fell directly onto an empty porch below, sustaining catastrophic injuries. The impact was so severe that blood was found spread across the porch area, creating a scene of panic within the hospital complex.
ACP Narayan Kumar Bajiya from Gandhi Nagar confirmed the sequence of events. Security guards and hospital staff immediately rushed Jat to the trauma centre. However, doctors declared him dead upon examination, unable to save him from the severe trauma caused by the fall.
A Patient's Prolonged Struggle
Investigations reveal that Jat's medical journey was long and arduous. He had undergone a kidney transplant approximately three months ago at the hospital. Initially, his health was reported to be stable by the medical staff. The kidney was donated by a family member, highlighting the personal investment in his recovery.
However, complications arose about a month ago. Police officials stated they are yet to speak to the treating doctors to ascertain the exact nature of these medical issues. Jat was admitted to the nephrology department for treatment related to these complications at the time of the incident.
Financial Burden and Silent Distress
In conversations with the police, Jat's family revealed the immense strain they were under. They were deeply worried about his prolonged illness and the associated financial burden of the treatment. Despite their concerns, the deceased never explicitly spoke about his distress or any suicidal thoughts.
His father and other family members were present with him in the hospital. In a heartbreaking detail, Jat was seen strolling around the hospital campus sometime before the incident. He then returned to the ward, only to leave again without informing anyone, leading to the fatal jump.
The police are investigating the case further, with the primary suspicion being that the patient was in extreme distress due to his prolonged health battle.
